Regenerative Farming Practices for Food Plots

James from Regenerative Plotting asks,

It’s so good to see you on YouTube once again. Thank you for posting! Have you looked into regenerative plotting? I learned a lot about the from the late Paul Knox, who was an incredible, Godly man. Since his passing what he preached when it came to food plots has really begun to explode. Again, I was just curious if you’ve looked into it. It is so good for the deer, as well as the soil. I was interested in hearing your thoughts. Thank you!

Regenerative Farming

Regenerative farming calls for a strictly no-till approach with very limited (or zero) herbicides and fertilizer used. The rotation of crops improves soil quality while saving money on inputs.

James,

I didn’t know Paul Knox but everyone said he was a great guy, very generous with his time and knowledge.  I have kept up, however, with the work Grant Woods is doing on this style of farming. Grant is also a great guy and very generous and helping people convert to this style of farming/food plotting is one of his life missions.  I am guessing Grant and Paul were using a very similar system.

I am not the person to define exactly how the system works. For more information, check out Grant’s site (GrowingDeer.tv) where he has plenty to say about it.

I also know people who have implemented Grant’s system and swear by it, so I need to start acquiring the equipment.   That is the drawback right now. I don’t have the roller crimper or the no-till drill to make this system work.  Once I get a handle on my new farm financially (it sure hasn’t been cheap buying land) I will look into buying specialized equipment and give this a try.

By all accounts, it should make my farm better.  Thanks and good luck. (8/7/22)
