Topic: How Late You Can Plant Brassicas:
Adam,
I had good success through about the third week of August. At that time it is best if you are no-till drilling the seed into the ground so you are sure to get the fastest possible germination. I would not broadcast it on top of untilled land much past August 7 unless you know you have a really good rain coming.
After the third week of August I usually switched over to a blend called Autumn Quick Plot that had more cereal grains in it also. If you have to plant after September 1, I think you should stick with straight cereal grains – winter wheat and/or winter (annual) rye. Maybe throw a few turnips in. Good luck. (8/15/22)
