Hey Bill,
Hope your season is going well! Really enjoying all the content. I listened to HUNTR podcast you where on. It was really enjoyable and interesting listen. My question is about once a mature whitetail winds you what is there behavior? How long until they are comfortable in the general area, if ever?View post →
Hi Bill,
What would be your advice for the following scenario?
Our farm has a high deer density here in central Ohio and the access to my stands is not the best in the world. This is something I will be addressing in the off season. This morning, as I was attempting to reach a stand, I accidentally bumped what I believe to be a mature buck. I contemplated leaving or continuing to the stand. I chose to continue to the stand, and in the process, was also picked off by several does which started blowing. What is your advice on bumping deer while approaching your stand? Do you normally abandon the hunt or continue the pursuit?
Thank you,
TomView post →
Hey Bill,
Does it ever make sense to enter a stand 1-2 hours after daylight to take advantage of the thermal uplift? It’s seems like the mornings can be tough during the first hour or before daylight if the wind is not perfect.
Thank you for your advice!View post →
Bill, have you started your quest yet? How many shooters have you located and do you have one primary buck at the top of your hit list?View post →
I know you have said in late December and January, when temperature changes sharply, either colder or warmer, the deer will move more. You also talk about cold fronts in October and November. My question is this, if it suddenly warms up in November will dear move more in your opinion?View post →
Hi Bill
I have a question regarding recovery of a wounded deer. Last friday I shot a good buck with a rage broadhead. After missing the deer low at 25 yards I was able to get a second shot at 35 yards. Unfortunately in the moment I inadvertently grabbed an arrow without a lighted knock. At the shot the buck seemed to jump forward as he was on alert and my gut was i hit him back through the hind legs but dont know for sure.
The deer took off and after looking for 2 hrs for the next 100 yards finding no arrow and no blood I backed out. I went in the next morning and searched the area in about a 500 yard radius and found one spec of blood. After walking the creek in the area I backed out. I checked the camera on Sunday in the area and no sign of the buck. My question is would you continue to search for the buck or see if he shows back up on Camera? If he is alive I want him to stay in the area and dont want to go trashing the whole area to try to find a deer that isnt dead. Im heartbroken about blowing the 25 yard shot and possibly "forcing" a second shot and of course wounding the buck
I was watching your episode on recovering the Big 7 so I know you have been there
any insight would BE MUCH APPRECIATED
Hope your season is going well and you are settling into your new hometown
Best

Hey Bill. Love the show and website.
-Question/Scenario
This goes along with your bluff and ridge top hunting info. Our farm is similar from what I understand or can at least picture from your stories. 280ac, a bluff that runs north and south along whole property dissected by two large valleys that cut it perpendicular. The top ground is 3 decent sized hay pastures averaging 20 acres or so each. Large timbered hollers and valleys separate the pastures. Bottom ground is also large pastures with other properties having row crops.
I guess I should propose a question. I cannot seem to be able to pinpoint bedding, both buck and doe. It’s a great rut farm, holds a lot of does, I just feel the bucks don’t reside there very often especially as they age a mature. Food is mainly grass, natural browse and acorns. Without putting in food plots or any other food stands(we are limited because it’s a working cattle farm) what would your plan of attack be to conquer this terrain.
Thanks

Hi Bill. Very happy to see this website. Long time follower of yours and was just wondering how your season is going. I'm sure your excitement level is quickly rising for these next few weeks!View post →
I was recently listening to a bunch of different podcast that have been on over the years, in a couple of them I heard you talk about Elimitrax, I was just wondering do you use them every time you hunt? Do you use the rubber sole part that comes with them? Do you still where rubber boots? Just looking for a few more details, I bought 2 pairs after I heard you mention them a few times.
Thanks JaredView post →
