When to Hunt the Whitetail Rut

Dan from Iowa asks,

I live in Davenport but I hunt around Chariton... been splitting 2 weeks of the Rut.. November 6 to the 13th then November 16th to the 22nd based on your experience what would you recommend instead?

Best Rut Dates

In states like Iowa where the bow season extends all the way through November, (or any state or province where you can expect natural movement during late November) there is a really good opportunity from November 20-25 (right after the peak of breeding) when bucks are still active but heading to food more readily.

Dan,

The only change I would make would be to include some days during the last week of October. I am starting to really like that timeframe. If you have a cold front during that week, you will be into great action.

So, my perfect schedule would be October 28-31, November 4-13 and then November 20-25.  I know you likely can’t hunt all those dates, but those are the timeframes when I have had the best hunting over the years.  Good luck. (4/4/22)
